Walk Description:
A pleasant walk from Mytholmroyd on the route 66 cycle track, past the ‘Murder Stone’, a memorial stone dedicated to William Deighton, a tax inspector murdered by the Cragg Vale Coiners in 1783. The track passes the historic textile mill, Stoney Springs Mill, towards Brearly, a small rural village situated along the River Calder. We turn under the railway bridge onto Blind Lane, above Wheatley Hall Farm to walk through pretty woodland onto Booth House Road before turning down the steep, cobbled, Blackwood Hall Lane to pick up the Route 66 cycle track back towards Brearly. We turn off onto the canal tow path past the Brearly Fields Wetland and back into Mytholmroyd.
