Walk Description:
This walk starts from the Jerusalem farm carpark with a steady climb onto wood lane, above the wooded terrain of the Luddenden Valley, with the wide, windswept high pastures of Upper Saltonstall above. We follow the trail onto Low lane, leading into Heys lane, via upper Saltonstall, an ancient, rural hamlet nestled high in the Luddenden Dene Valley, and past the Grade ll listed Upper Saltonstall Old Hall towards the Cat I’th Well, a 17th century inn. We continue via Saltonstall Lane up a steep slope, which turns onto bank house lane, descending back into tree-lined tracks and re-entering the nature reserve and the starting point.
Location Notes:
FREE parking, not on a major bus route. Bus route 574 from Halifax (nearest bus stop, Booth Terrace, Luddenden). No toilets available. Bob's tearoom open on Saturdays and Sundays only.
