The POWER of POLES (POP) Induction is totally unique in that it explores the use of both strapless and strapped Nordic walking poles to help you gain the best techniques and results! This course is ideally taught over 1.5 hours.  

This course is aimed at anyone who wants to learn the basics and then go on to join a regular walking group where you will gain further tuition and consolidate the techniques you have learned in the POP course.

Walk Description:

Pace one

A 2k to 3k gentle WALX that incorporates balance work, flexibility and strength exercises and maybe a bit of yoga or relaxation too. On Monday these walks take place around Stanmore and Harrow Weald on mainly flat terrain but we do go on trails through the woods so that we can enjoy the changes in nature throughout the year. This is a very friendly group and we are always ready to welcome new walkers who want to get back into exercise in a safe and gradual way.

Starting in April 2025 there is also the option to sign up for the 6 week Total Body Walking Programme in the beautiful Canons Park in Stanmore which is being supported by TfL and Friends of Canons Park. This programme runs on Tuesdays and Sundays at 11am.

For the Home Weights workout with Denise, all you need is something you can hold in your hands to use as an added resistance. It could be a set of weights or dumb-bells or, alternatively, you could use washing softener bottles or plastic milk bottles filled with water. You could use wet towels in a plastic bag or bags of potatoes (anything you can hold in each hand). The "WALX HQ Presents ..." sessions are delivered online from WALX & Nordic Walking UK head office, helping you stay active and mobile from home. This is a 90 minutes walk on footpaths through fields and over stiles around Wootton. Come and enjoy this early morning walk to get an active start at the beginning of your week.

This is a delightful and gentle scenic walk through Thorncombe Woods.

Suitable for all abilites with or without poles.

There is a wealth of wildlife – including resident Dartmoor ponies- and a varied range of mature trees and open scrubland from which, high up, there are magnificent views of the surrounding countryside with the Purbeck Hill’s in the distance. A walk not to be missed!

We will meet in car park, there is a charge of £1 per hour, to use the car park.

Throughout the walk we will be observing the social distancing as best as possible at all times.

This is a Gear 2 walk of less than 4 miles. There are a couple of different options according to the ground conditions. Although a shortish walk, there are some steep ramps to improve your cardio fitness. The walk varies between grass on lovely old turf and hard tracks. This walk compliments the other weekly Gear 2 walks, which are longer but have gentler inclines, both designed to help you improve your personal fitness.

Gear 2 - A faster pace gained through technique. There will be less recovery time.
