9.30am START. Led by NWUK Instructor Susan Spain, the 'Saturday Early Bird Workout Walk' is a 1 hour moderate to faster pace Workout Walk. These energising sessions will help you rebuild your stamina and fitness levels, & push that pace without compromising on technique plus work on strength and core fitness. For those who have completed a Power of the Poles or Learn to Nordic walk course and have their Freedom code.  Incorporates motivating drills and exercises using Gears 1, 2 and .... maybe some Gear 3. Will also incorporates some technique work to help you get the most out of your Nordic Walking.

Meeting point - We meet outside the cafe at the Clifton Country Park Visitor Centre Car Park. (Sat Nav: M27 6NG). Plenty of free parking. Easily reached via exit 16 off the M60 or exit 2 off the M61, then along the A666 and turn down Clifton House Road (follow brown signs). Bus stop: Use the Clifton Cricket Club stop on Manchester Road (Bus numbers 8 and 22). Park is a short walk down Clifton House Road.

Toilet facilities are available at the cafe (along with the usual hot drinks and snacks). 

Poles can be hired on the day for £1 (coin)

Adventure Walk: In and out of Dovedale

Date: Saturday 22nd February

Meet at 9.15 for 9.30am start at The Barn, Thorpe, DE6 2AW

Distance: 8 miles, 4 hours

The walk: Footpaths, farm tracks and quiet lanes without pavement. Some areas prone to mud and uneven walking.

Via Lin Dale we will walk to Dovedale and along the Dove. We cross the River Dove at Ilam Rock and follow our route uphill through Hall Dale and downhill to Milldale. In Milldale we cross the Dove again, and follow it now down stream to Dove Holes. Here we leave Dovedale again and follow the high up and down route above Dovedale. Via Flagpole Hill and Thorpe Pasture we return to the Barn, where we will have lunch.

Please bring water & snacks, also waterproofs & layers.

Gradients: Lowest 470ft, Highest 1010ft, Total ascent 1510ft  

Lunch: soup, salad and pudding, in the cabin or outdoors (depending weather) with an open fire for an additional £5 on the day. Let me know if you stay for lunch when you book the walk.

   Come and join our WALX classes. To get the most from using poles in our WALX sessions, the Power of Poles is an excellent starting point.

We are excited to welcome newcomers to the use of poles to exercise the whole body whilst walking. Using poles will engage your core, improve posture and  take the weight off lower body joints. It enables you to exercise outdoors  which is great for your mental health as well.

Find out how to use fitness walking poles to achieve the results YOU want. This session will help you select the right kind of poles and use them for health, fitness, fun or challenges. Poles are provided. If this Sunday does not suit, please contact me on 07803 037 332 

The POWER of POLES Induction is totally unique in that it explores the use of both strapless and Nordic walking poles to aid the user gain the best technique and results! Taught over 2 sessions of 1.5 hours duration, the second being optional, the session starts with the strapless moulded handle fitness walking poles devised by WALX and FIZAN

This enables you to feel  greater core engagement and master the  elements that provide propulsion,   increased exercise benefits and make you feel lighter on our feet. Once you have mastered these essential basics you get to explore the traditional Nordic walking straps and movements.  The second session of the Power of Poles is optional and  will be listed separately  at a convenient date for you.

A comfortably paced Total Body WALX for you to enjoy in a social atmosphere, during the walk providing if the weather is fine, we will stop for a 20 minute session of Chi Ball - a mixture of Tai Chi and Yoga from the seasons sequence. A small ball is used but imagination is fine for the session.

During this 45 minute session you get to feel the benefits from using the poles for walking. Using up to 90% of the body muscle, it targets those difficult to tone areas. Walking with poles is fun, social, fantastic and it will change the way you exercise.

Poles are provided for the session.  

Please have suitable footwear on and a rucksack is advised for your belongings.

 

 There is a charge for Danson Park car park after 10.00am.

This walk takes us through Thorncombe woods and Puddletown forest. In any season this a beautiful place to be. Glorious views and nature around you. The paths are generally very good and having walked along the Roman road we make our way to the edge of the wood and slip though a small path into an open field. Crossing the field we reach a lane and we have a short walk to the cafe. Following our coffee and cake, we return to  the field and back to the woods .

Walk Description:

Come and learn how to turn walking into a total body exercise with poles. Get more from walking in your own time or join our regular fitness walking classes.

In line with Government guidance and our own updated risk assessment protocols, we can now offer the beginners` Power of Poles workshop for up to 5 participants at a time. For details on the measures we`ve put in place to keep you safe, click on More Information.

At the end of this session, you will have a full understanding of using poles correctly and a level where you will be issued with the NWUK Freedom Passport, allowing you to join thousands of walks & classes, every week all around the UK

Walk Description:

The Saturday Strider is led this week by NWUK Instructor Susan Spain and is an easy/moderate pace 2-3 mile, 1 hour walk. Get some great Nordic Walking exercise, fresh air and chat! They are great walks to attend to build your fitness especially if you`d like to progress onto the faster paced or longer walks. 

Meeting point - We meet outside the cafe at the Clifton Country Park Visitor Centre Car Park. (Sat Nav: M27 6NG). Plenty of free parking. Easily reached via exit 16 off the M60 or exit 2 off the M61, then along the A666 and turn down Clifton House Road (follow brown signs). Bus stop: Use the Clifton Cricket Club stop on Manchester Road (Bus numbers 8 and 22). Park is a short walk down Clifton House Road.

Why not come earlier for 10.30 & join in our cafe social between the end of the Early Bird Workout Walk and the start of the 11am session.... have a quick brew (option to bring your own mug to be more environmentally friendly & save 20p on your drink too/ or 50% off if over 70 (ID required)) and have breakfast if you wish.

Toilet facilities are available at the cafe (along with the usual hot drinks and snacks). 

Poles can be hired on the day for £1 (coin)

Walk Description:

Our Explorer WALX will venture into the beautiful areas around the Forest.  This 2-mile walk is primarily on flat terrain but can be muddy on occasions. Allow 1 hour for the walk. 

This Explorer WALX session is open to walkers who do not wish, or are not able, to use poles.  This session is suited to those who are looking to improve their fitness and can walk at a minimum pace of 2 mph.
