A hidden gem of a park with numerous grassy paths and trails - perfect for all seasons walking in good company. If you are looking for an hour of ‘feel good’ exercise in a spectacular location, this is the walk for you. You will feel energised whatever the weather in this lovely place…

Ideal for those with concerns about either distance, pace, rehabilitation or certain medical conditions. These gentle walks will be just what you need to build up your confidence and improve your health. Balance, co-ordination and strength exercises will be incorporated.

These gentle walks are suitable for people who would like to start Nordic Walking to get fit but have no/ little walking experience, have had an injury or a knee/ hip operation.

We often walk on the level paths around Ilam park. But we will also incorporate fields and hills in our walks which are 2-3 miles.

Build It Up Buttercup Fitness Programme

John is launching a progressive fitness programme designed for anyone looking to gradually build their fitness and stamina. Whether you're starting from scratch or seeking a structured way to regain strength, this programme is tailored to support your journey.

About the Programme

John brings first-hand experience to this initiative, having rebuilt his fitness after an illness and is now recovering from surgery. His inspiring journey motivates him to help others achieve their goals at their own pace.

The programme starts in February with a gentle 2.6-mile walk at a 2.5 mph pace and progresses to a challenging 12.8-mile walk at 3.5mph in December.

What to Expect

Each month will feature a variety of walks to keep things interesting and adaptable to different fitness levels:

Hilly terrain

Flexibility for All Abilities

Participants can join and stop at any stage to match their own ability or ambition.

Walk Description:

A more gentle walk for those with a recent medical condition that means that mobility is limited, and who feel their fitness levels have declined as a result. The challenge is still to manage an hour walk, with rests when needed. Regularly weekly walks can bring improvements.

Start of the walk is at the same time of the other group. Warming up exercises are together and we meet again in the car park for a hot drink.

10.30AM START. Led by NWUK Instructor Susan Spain, the `Thursday Thunderer Workout Walk` is a 1 hour moderate to faster pace Workout Walk starting from different locations in the Salford area. These energising sessions will help you rebuild your stamina and fitness levels, push that pace without compromising on technique plus work on strength and core fitness. For those who have completed a Power of the Poles or Learn to Nordic walk course and have their Freedom code.  Incorporates motivating drills and exercises using Gears 1, 2 and .... maybe some Gear 3. Will also incorporates some technique work to help you get the most out of your Nordic Walking. 

This week - Dukes Drive, Monton. 

Meeting point - Dukes Drive Car Park, Monton, M30 8AP Meet in the car park at Dukes Drive. Dukes Drive car park is at the top of Parrin Lane. Turn left into the car park as you come up Parrin Lane (B5299) from Worsley Road (B5211). The car park entrance is as you go over the canal bridge and before you reach the roundabout. Dukes Drive is easily accessible along Worsley Road and then up Parrin Lane from both Junctions 11 and 13 of the M60.  No toilet facilities.

This second walk is 6 miles. It is a simple there and back walk from Knot end to the start of Cockerham marsh near Pilling.

Looking over at Glasson Dock and Sunderland point round to Heysham and then on the return across to Fleetwood on the other side of the river Wyre

START TIME 11.40 .  Led by NWUK Instructor Susan Spain, the Thursday Motivator Nordic Walk is an gentle/easy pace 1 hour walk. This session is ideal for those wanting to improve their fitness & who just want to have a Nordic Walk, fresh air and chat. Start times and locations vary to give variety on a week by week basis so please check carefully each week but will be in the Salford area

THIS WEEK - DUKES DRIVE, MONTON

Meeting point - Dukes Drive Car Park, Monton, M30 8AP Meet in the car park at Dukes Drive. Dukes Drive car park is at the top of Parrin Lane. Turn left into the car park as you come up Parrin Lane (B5299) from Worsley Road (B5211). The car park entrance is as you go over the canal bridge and before you reach the roundabout. Dukes Drive is easily accessible along Worsley Road and then up Parrin Lane from both Junctions 11 and 13 of the M60.  No toilet facilities.
