Join our Guided Nordic Walk around the ancient Forest. Walks are led by our team of experienced Forestry England Volunteers. Our walks are suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, who have completed a NWUK Learn to Walk Course and are comfortable walking for the full 90 minutes.

Walk Description:

Adventure Walk: Thornbridge Estate – Longstone loop

Date: Tuesday 1St April

Meet at 10.15 for a 10.30am start at Thornbridge Estate, A6020, turn right, follow estate lane to car park

Distance: 4 miles, 2 hours

The walk: Footpaths, farm tracks and quiet lanes with/without pavement. Some areas prone to mud and uneven walking.

Walk will start on the Monsal Trail, but soon leaving the trail and walking through fields to Great and Little Longstone and Monsal Head, from here we have a lovely view of the River Wye and the Monsal Viaduct. We need to go down to cross the river and then steep uphill to reach the Monsal Trail again, which we follow to Thornbridge Estate.

Please bring water & snacks, also waterproofs & layers.

Stiles: 7 stiles

Gradients: Lowest 415ft, Highest 770ft, Total ascent 450ft  

Lunch: Quackers café on the estate, menu

After the lunch it’s possible to visit the garden, open until 4pm.

The POWER OF THE POLES Induction process is suitable for all levels and is a structured teaching programme. There are 2 Courses of one and a half hours each. Course 1 is designed to provide sufficient knowledge for someone to be proficient at using poles. Course 2 is an optional further course for those wanting to explore a more in-depth knowledge of walking with poles and the traditional Nordic Technique. I will help you to understand your current level of fitness and empower you to use poles at the correct intensity in order to get the results you want.

These courses will ensure you master the technique of using poles and change the way you walk for life. Course 1 will cover the following:

Mastering the power of Fitness Walking poles

Gear 1: Mastering the arm swing, upper body engagement and pole plant angle.

Gear 2: Gaining propulsion from the pole and toe push, adapting pole position for hills and tailoring technique to your fitness, mobility and personal goals.

You will experience different poles types, the core ledge and straps in order to select the technique and poles that are right for YOU!

At the end of this session, you will have a full understanding of using poles correctly and be at a level where you will be issued with the NWUK Freedom Passport, allowing you to join walks & classes.

Learn to use the poles with the first class of Walikng with poles

 

We will meet at Penzance leisure centre, look out for Rich or Thila

 

This sessions will be held outside on our football pitch, while out there you will learn how to use the poles, practise using the poles and finish up with a little walk around the surrounding area

 

Please wear suitable footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather conditions on the day

 

THe session will primarily be flat however depending on class participants, small gradiants can be incorporated

Walk Description:

This is an Intermediate/Gear 2 walk (the distance is greater than a Gear 1/Intermediate walk) of approximately 4 miles with a couple of different options according to the ground conditions. Maybe one or two short steep ramps and some longer hills can be included depending on sign ups, but as a rule the walk includes gentle inclines and hard tracks through woods. 

Intermediate - A faster pace than Gear 1 and an established technique is key, but if necessary a little more recovery time for those that need it. 

Gear 2 - A faster pace gained through technique. There will be less recovery time.
