You'll gain the skills to get the most from your own walking as well as being able to join national Nordic Walking UK and WALX classes.
Locally you will be able to book into any of WALX Ver Valley's classes straight away and enjoy effective total body walking in and around the St Albans beautiful countryside.
The beginner's workshop is delivered by accredited WALX Instructors.
We supply the poles. All equipment is thoroughly cleaned and sanitised before and after use.

9.30am START. Led by NWUK Instructor Susan Spain, the 'Saturday Early Bird Workout Walk' is a 1 hour moderate to faster pace Workout Walk. These energising sessions will help you rebuild your stamina and fitness levels, & push that pace without compromising on technique plus work on strength and core fitness. For those who have completed a Power of the Poles or Learn to Nordic walk course and have their Freedom code. Incorporates motivating drills and exercises using Gears 1, 2 and .... maybe some Gear 3. Will also incorporates some technique work to help you get the most out of your Nordic Walking.

Join Lucie on a hike up East Hill to Nine Barrow to blow away the January Blues and on our return we will visit the Corfe Station Cafe.
We take the least muddy circuit up the hill and along the ridge taking in some iconic views of Corfe Castle and the Isle of Purbeck.
There are some short but steady climbs, uneven terrain, grazing livestock, stiles and roads to cross. There will of course at this time of the year be some mud.

A comfortably paced Total Body WALX for you to enjoy in a social atmosphere, during the walk providing if the weather is fine, we will stop for a 20 minute session of Chi Ball - a mixture of Tai Chi and Yoga from the seasons sequence. A small ball is used but imagination is fine for the session.

With a wide variety of venues and terrain to chose from you are sure to discover a few favourites. This is course is to enable the enthusiastic newcomer to enter the world of walking with poles where they can improve their skills and fitness levels.
It will bring you confidence to walk with poles. You will leave this session feeling excited about getting going.
Ideal once you have tasted the experience you will want to continue your journey.
You will throughout your participation in sessions receive excellent instruction and motivation to keep you engaged.
You will be supported as often and to the level you wish. We are a social group and have so much fun keeping active and getting fitter.

Marple Bridge and Etherow Country Park

Starting at the site of Brabyns Hall, we'll head along the river crossing into Compstall and making our way to Etherow Country Park where we'll explore one of Britains first Country Parks which was established in 1968. We'll explore part of Ernocroft Wood which used to be open cast coal mines, and Keg pool which was part of a hunting estate, before making our return to Marple Bridge.
Distance approx 10km with a height gain of 260m
(There's a short route option too, starting at Etherow Country Park)
There's no need to worry about navigation, allowing you to take time to soak in the stunning views and enjoy great company.
Led by an experienced Nordic Walking Instructor who is Outdoor First Aid Trained and will support you along the way.

Join us for an exploration of Canon Hill with some lovely view points of the New Forest, a gentle woodland walk along some wide tracks and some gentle climbs up to the viewpoints.
Some of the walk can be muddy and this is a popular area for Dog walkers. Roots and uneven terrain on parts of the walk.

This walk will start at approx 10:45 so please make sure you arrive early and warm yourself up so you can join us.

The POWER of THE POLES is a structured programme suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. Come and discover the joys of Nordic Walking and how to turn your walking into total body exercise using strapless Total Body WALX poles which will enable you to learn more quickly and easily.
Your NWUK qualified instructor, Susan Spain, will help you understand your current level of fitness and empower you to use poles at an intensity level for the results you want. The session also includes advice on the different types of pole available including traditional strapped Nordic Walking poles.
Poles (strapless) are provided for your course.
Currently taught in a small group (max 2 plus instructor), at the end of the 90 minutes you will have a full understanding of how to use poles effectively and at a level where you can then join our Parks and Pathways regular walks and classes, sign up to other NWUK or WALX classes or simply get more out of walking in your own time.
The session price of £15 also includes your first walk with the group once you've completed your induction session. Your instructor will give you advice on which regular sessions are best suited to you. Regular walk sessions take place on Thursday & Saturday mornings at Salford venues & Monday mornings at Chorlton Water Park, Manchester (see full schedule for more info on the 1 hour Workout Walks or Motivator/Strider Walks. There are also monthly 2 or 3 hour walks on several dates a month).
There will also be an option to sign up to a second Power of the Poles 2 - 90 minute course - at a later date to enhance & refresh your technique either with strapless or strapped poles.
