Lyme Park Nordic Walks
Come and join us on a social walk on a circular route of around 5km within the Historic Estate of Lyme Park
Nestling on the edge of the Peak District, Lyme was once home to the Legh family, and in its heyday a great sporting estate.
The estate covers approx 1400 acres, so offers lots of different walks with varying terrain and stunning views, we may see some of their famous deer herds and highland cattle too.

NB Today the walk starts in Tissington Village
These gentle walks are suitable for people who would like to start Nordic Walking to get fit but have no/ little walking experience, have had an injury or an knee/ hip operation.
We often walk on the Tissington Trail as this is fairly level and even. But we will also incorporate fields and hills in our walks which are 2-3 miles.

Sometimes we meet somewhere else to do a similar walk.

A more gentle walk for those with a recent medical condition that means that mobility is limited, and who feel their fitness levels have declined as a result. The challenge is still to manage an hour walk, with rests when needed. Regularly weekly walks can bring improvements.
Start of the walk is at the same time of the other group. Warming up exercises are together and we meet again in the car park for a hot drink.

This is an attractive mixed terrain circular walk, through Halford, up to Berrymill Wood, and back alongside the River Onny. Another walk with great views of the hills all around, and good for flora, (including early spotted orchids and bluebells in the spring) and fauna too.
Nordic Walx are simply sociable Nordic walks in a mixed ability group, enjoying beautiful locations in and around South Shropshire and beyond. Most routes are circular and will try to make the most of the beautiful surroundings.

We'll walk for at least an hour, longer if your time allows.

Until end August, the Tuesday and Thursday walks will be held locally and always starting at the Treetops Cafe.
The Thursday walk will be more suitable for intermediate and advanced Nordic Walkers. Those of you who normally like a longer, more challenging walk will be encouraged try out our weighted vests/sacs weighing up to 8 kg (you're recommended to start with 5-10% of your weight and walk with load for max 20-30 mins). Until the end of July you'll be able to try it out for a short period and then from 1st August weighted vests can be rented for £3 a walk.
All Nordic Walks start with a short mobilisation and finish with stretchiing.
Toilets are available at start and end of walks. Also refreshments.
Walks go ahead in all weathers except if there is a strong chance of extremely heavy rain and/or thunderstorms.
Appropriate clothing and footwear to be worn
Bring a bottle of water.

Build It Up Buttercup Fitness Programme
John is launching a progressive fitness programme designed for anyone looking to gradually build their fitness and stamina. Whether you're starting from scratch or seeking a structured way to regain strength, this programme is tailored to support your journey.
About the Programme
John brings first-hand experience to this initiative, having rebuilt his fitness after an illness and is now recovering from surgery. His inspiring journey motivates him to help others achieve their goals at their own pace.
The programme starts in February with a gentle 2.6-mile walk at a 2.5 mph pace and progresses to a challenging 12.8-mile walk at 3.5mph in December.

Todays walk replaces our regular Easy Monday morning walk.
These are a great way to practice your technique and take a gentle approach to improving your technique. Great for those new to nordic walking or those looking for an easier walk level.
Nordic Walking is a specific fitness technique and is not to be confused with trekking, hill walking or trail running as the poles are not planted in front of the walker/runner but in a specific way that increases the use of the upper body. It can be done by anybody, anywhere and does not require expensive equipment or clothing.
Note: To participate in regular Nordic WALX, you must have completed our Nordic Freedom Course.
